Trader Joe’s to open Oct. 10 at Metropolitan
Trader Joe’s plans to open its midtown Charlotte store in the Metropolitan development Oct. 10. It will be California-based Trader Joe’s third location here.
Company spokeswoman Alison Mochizuki says the midtown facility will measure 13,100 square feet. That’s an average-sized store for the company, which has stores ranging from about 11,000 to 15,000 square feet.
Trader Joe’s opened its first Charlotte store in the Piper Glen Shopping Center last summer. It also has a store at The Arbors shopping center in the University area. Mark Grumbach, who opened the first Trader Joe’s in New York City and now manages the Piper Glen location, will run the midtown store.
Pappas Properties and Collett & Associates are developing Metropolitan at the site of the former Midtown Square mall. When complete, it will be a $225 million mix of office, retail and residential space fronting a greenway. Target Inc. and The Home Depot opened stores in the development in October. Best Buy and Staples recently added stores, and Marshalls is expected to open soon.
Trader Joe’s has more than 280 stores in more than 23 states.
