Toledo, Ohio-based restaurant chain Marco’s Pizza has plans to open up to 35 locations in the Greenville-Spartanburg and Columbia markets by 2019, according to a Marco’s Pizza area representative. The chain has plans to open at least four of those locations before the end of the year, one each in Spartanburg and Greenwood and two in Greenville.
“We did our due diligence in the Carolinas and liked that there were bigger cities that had that small-town feel,” said Andy Hunter, an area representative who has already opened 14 locations with father and fellow area representative Mike Hunter. The duo own and operate four of those locations.
Marco’s has 20 stores in the Greenville-Spartanburg, Columbia and Charlotte markets, employing around 500 people. Marco’s plans to boost that number of stores to 63 by the end of 2019.
The next location to open will be at 1120 N. Pleasantburg Drive. in Greenville, which will open in summer. In fall, Marco’s will open a location in the city of Spartanburg, followed by a November opening of a location in Greenwood and the December opening of another Greenville store.
Each store requires 30 employees, and the company is looking to fill positions at all four of the newest locations, said Hunter.
