Hobby Lobby to Schulman Crossing

Hobby Lobby is looking to open its Schulman Crossing store in Garden City in early September, according to a news release the company issued on Thursday.
Construction is in full swing on Schulman Crossing. When completed, Hobby Lobby will take over a 55,000-square-foot space on the southern end of the row of retailer shops, located just north of Menards near Schulman Avenue and the bypass.
The Garden City store will be the 14th location in Kansas for Hobby Lobby, a national retail chain of craft and home decor stores with more than 600 stores across the country. According to the release, the store will employ 35 to 50 people and will pay $15 per hour for full-time and $10 per hour for part-time associates.
"The success of our stores in Kansas is a good indicator that area shoppers will be pleased with the quality, selection and value we offer in the craft and home decor market," John Schumacher, assistant vice president of advertising, said. "New customers and customers already familiar with the Hobby Lobby shopping experience are greatly anticipating this store opening."
Hobby Lobby offers more than 70,000 crafting and home decor products in its stores. Departments include floral, fabric, needle art, custom framing, baskets, home accents, wearable art, arts and crafts, jewelry making, scrapbooking and paper-crafting supplies. Store hours will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday. All Hobby Lobby stores are closed on Sunday.
Hobby Lobby is one of seven major tenants that North Carolina-based real estate company Collett & Associates has lined up for the development. Other major tenants include: T.J. Maxx, Petco, Cato Fashion, Dick's Sporting Goods, Ross Dress for Less and Ulta Cosmetics.
The first phase of the Schulman Crossing project, Menards, opened in June 2013. When finished, phase II, the shopping center, will add more than 200,000 square feet of retail space. Site work got under way in October.
