Collett will lease retail space for Tryon Place tower

Charlotte-based developer Crescent Communities said Monday that it has selected brokerage firm Collett to lease retail space in its new uptown office tower.

The 27-story Tryon Place office tower at Stonewall and South Tryon streets will have 30,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space. Charles Thrift, of Collett, will lead the leasing effort.

The site is also expected to include a hotel, and could include up to 150 units of multifamily housing. Crescent said Tuesday that it will break ground on the site in the fourth quarter this year, with completion expected in the second quarter 2018.

“While a high-rise building that will take its place amid Charlotte’s uptown skyline, Tryon Place begins at the sidewalk,” said Brian Leary, president of commercial and mixed-use at Crescent, in a statement. “Who we recruit and select to be at our front door and deliver Tryon Place’s first impressions is extremely important.”

The building will house about 4,000 workers a day, Crescent projects, and the site will include a public plaza with outdoor art and public seating. Crescent and Collett said they will focus on attracting local chefs and restaurant concepts.

“We are focusing on bringing local and regional chef-driven concepts to Tryon Place to create a true dining destination in uptown,” said Thrift, in a statement. “Unlike other office buildings that might have a restaurant or two, Tryon Place will truly offer a full floor of shops and restaurants with office space above. The first floor will have a street presence that will make it truly unique.”
