City of Seguin announces new retail development
A new retail development is set to break ground at the end of the year in Seguin and bring new shopping opportunities to the area.
Seguin’s Economic Development Corporation, the city of Seguin and Guadalupe County announced a joint venture that will create Seguin Crossing, a retail development set to house popular stores including Hobby Lobby, Five Below, James Avery, a national sporting goods retailer and other retail opportunities, said Josh Schneuker, executive director of the Seguin Economic Development Corporation.
The partnership between Collett & Associates and the Alexander family is a $25 million capital investment project that will create a 135,000 square-foot retail facility on a 14-acre site on the northeast corner of the Interstate 10 westbound access road and Jay Road, across the street from Starbucks.
“We are thrilled to bring this exciting new retail development to Seguin,” said Mike Robbe of Collett. “Seguin is one of the fastest-growing communities in the United States and its rapid population growth has driven significant demand for more retail options.”
The current growth and the city’s diligence in bringing new business opportunities for the residents helped the developers set their sights on Seguin, Robbe said.
“Our decision to develop here was influenced by Seguin’s vibrant economy, strategic location and the city’s commitment to fostering a business-friendly environment,” he said. “The national retailers involved in this project see the immense potential in Seguin and are eager to serve this expanding market. We believe this development will not only meet the needs of the community but also contribute to Seguin’s continued growth and prosperity.”
With work to commence at the end of the year, shops are slated to open before the 2025 holiday season, Schneuker said.
“We’re incredibly excited about this new retail project, which will add over 135,000 square feet of new shopping space to Seguin,” Mayor Donna Dodgen said. “Expanding and diversifying our retail offerings has been a key priority for the city. This development reflects our commitment to providing residents and visitors with access to well-known national retailers. It’s a significant step forward in positioning Seguin as a vibrant hub for shopping, dining and community activity.”
With the city marked as one of the fastest growing in the country, it has started catching the eye of national retailers including the recently announced Chick-fil-A and Murdoch’s, Schneuker said.
“The Seguin Crossing development will be the largest new retail project in Seguin in over 30 years, symbolizing the tremendous growth and opportunity our city is experiencing,” Schneuker said. “This achievement was a true team effort and I’d like to extend my sincere thanks to the SEDC Board of Directors, the Seguin City Council, the Guadalupe County Commissioners Court, the city of Seguin staff and management and the Collett team for their collaboration and hard work. Without their dedication and support, this project would not have come to fruition.”
